Automated production line for aircraft engine parts

CONTEXT

As part of the modernisation and transformation of production sites into 4.0 (digital transformation and automation), Safran wanted to automate the preparation of the Low Pressure Distributor (LPD) parts for aircraft engines.

Safran’s challenge is to obtain considerable time and quality savings and operator efficiency gains (elimination of manual operations and improved ergonomics) so that they can devote themselves to more value-added tasks.

SOLUTIONS

Groupe ADF designed and built the automated unit for Safran. It is composed of four high-speed robots, which place more than 800 inserts of different sizes on each turbine stage.

The robots sort automatically (vision-based sorting) and operate with great precision (vision-based quality control). The time required to perform these operations has been divided by four with a high quality level.
