The sheet metal working trade
The trade of sheet metal worker consists of working all types of metal parts. The knowledge of the metals and their composition is fundamental. A sheet metal worker must know the structure of the materials to make the right choices for assemblies and welding to ensure that they will resist the pressure and temperature constraints they will be subjected to, which may be very high. These skills thus make it possible for the sheet metal worker to manufacture recipients or various structural parts of varying sizes.
The different steps in the creation Following a study and design phase, the sheet metal worker starts by cutting out and forming the various parts using techniques of bending, rolling or stamping. The parts are then assembled so that they may be tack welded. After final welding and depending on the operations that have already been carried out, the assembly may then be annealed and undergo the required inspection checks (X ray, pressure testing) before being delivered to the customer.
ADF has several sheet metal workshops including :
-
-
The sheet metal workshop at Feyzin (RhĂ´ne-Alpes) that is most specialised in the use of stainless steel and special alloys,
-
Our colleagues in the south of France are specialised in prototypes and highly technical work.
-
These two workshops essentially work for the petro-chemical industry.
-
The workshop in the centre of France of la Feuillane is acknowledged for its work with thick sectioned steel, which allows it to produce large assemblies, especially for siderurgy, as well as the workshop at Vénissieux which is a leader whose talent lies in sheet plastic work.

The welding trade
The welder's work consists of "joining" the parts to one another. This phase requires dexterity to work the molten metal as well as good eyesight, which is essential to check the quality of the pool. These skills, which have to be accompanied by good knowledge of metals, their chemistry and structure, are the guarantees of good quality work. The welder works with all types of steels, such as carbon steel, stainless steels or even alloyed steels. To ensure that an assembly is a success, the welder works hand in hand with the pipe workers and sheet metal workers.
Welding processes An operations sheet is drafted for each construction to be welded by the welding quality technician, who defines the steps and indicates how and with what materials the welds are to be made. Once the welding is complete, a final global quality check is made to validate the final shape of the parts and the welds, which must not be cracked or have defects.
Our specialities Our workshops and their specialities enable us to weld all types of metals and thus satisfy the requirements of each of out customers. Several types of processes are carried out in our workshops: TIG, arc, semi-automatic, orbital and plastic welding.

The mechanical technician's trade
Mechanical maintenance technician realises service or reconstruction of rotary machines (pumps, turbines, compressors, fans...) or any other type of equipment that includes mechanisms (inlet guides, axle bogies …). They carry out repairs, in the workshop or during visits to the production units.
The skills required The mechanical technician has a very technical job and needs good bases in construction drawing, elementary assembly and guide functions (bearings, bushes,..), sealing (gaskets, mechanical linings, ,…), and construction materials.
The work involved In response to the improvements demanded by our customers, the job of the mechanical technician has changed. His/her work no longer just covers breakdowns and repairs, but is based around three types of maintenance:
-
Preventive: this consists of checking and renewing worn parts, lubricating and cleaning before a machine breaks down. Complete knowledge of the machines and their operating parameters is required to validate that it is working correctly
-
Curative: the breakdown has occurred. The mechanical maintenance technician repairs all types of mechanical machines as quickly as possible.
-
Conditional: The mechanical maintenance technician helps to predict breakdowns by taking measurements and continuous monitoring of the operating parameters (measurement of vibrations, analysis of oil, and changes in temperatures…).
The specialities of ADF Mechanical engineering work is included in most of our contracts. ADF has 7 mechanical engineering workshops throughout France. These workshops carry out repairs as well as machining :
-
-
North: the Gravelines and Le Havre workshops (repairs and machining),
-
Centre: Vénissieux workshop (repairs),
-
South: Preci Mecanic and Martigues Kennedy workshops (repairs and machining), Carré d’As and la Feuillane workshops (repairs).
